Planning - Shot list

Shot List

Majority of my shots maintain the same angle however they are different clips of different objects. Due to not having a printer at home and not being at sixth form from March i was only able to create one sheet so if the same angle was used for a certain amount of time with similar movements i combined them together within the table.

 Props and costume

Female character

The female in the video will be wearing a red satin robe to show the representation of women in my video as sexualised. This would correlate with Van Zoonen who advocates that the very presentation of women’s bodies as objects to be looked at is a core element of western patriarchal culture.

The female character in the music video will be wearing red converse to continue the colour theory of red.Red is the colour of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Red is a very emotionally intense colour. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure. This shows the dangerous side of the female and creating tension in the music video as the audience are introduced to the female as being associated with passion and desire.

The female will also be wearing make up to relate to the 16-25 fun loving stereotype

Male character

The male in the video will be wearing a Super dry designer coat to represent the finical stability of the protagonist. The male will represent an individual from a higher class and the A economy due to the use of designer clothing shown in the video.

Planning - Pitch

Planning - Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment

For my music video there are many risks that myself and the actors may endure. In most cases it is recommended that a team is put in place to take control of this planning process. The risks must be considered and solutions put in place. Paying extra attention to laws and legislation can ensure you are providing a safe environment for both workers and actors alike. This includes The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and The Noise at Work Regulations 2005The key piece of legislation is the Health And Safety At Work Act 1974. Under the Act, Risk Assessments in my case a proper assessment of the potential health and safety issues that apply to the working situation of creating my music video 'Ocean Drive'. When planning my music video i needed to determine what kind of risks are caused by my work , consider how likely the risks are ,take appropriate action to resolve this and implement well known and effective industry practices making sure everyone involved is identifying and controlling the risks in both the indoor and outdoor settings.

The first risk within my music video would be the possibility of tripping over a cable to prevent this i will make sure myself as the Director and anybody involved in the music video will be aware of cables and tuck it away wherever possible. This could include chargers or lights that are located inside the house setting. There is also a possibility of tripping over a tripod in which the risk would be reduced by no running when in the area that i am filming the music video and making sure everyone is aware of the tripod as there will also be a risk of knocking over the tripod so making sure everyone and myself is cautious should be implemented. Tripping over outside objects is also a risk such as the settings in a public space such as a forest or a public house will have objects that cannot be controlled. This is would be introduced in the outdoor settings such as the bridge over the river as someone could trip over something on the bridge and injure themselves or the scene where the male is in the forest may inflict some hazards.

Lighting when recording my music video is also a potential risk as someone could knock the lighting over or burn themselves on the lighting. To prevent the light being knocked over i will try to put the lighting in a non-invasive place and not allow any disruptive behaviour to take place near it.To prevent to risk of someone harming themselves by burning self on lighting i will not let anyone close to the light source apart from myself as i know how to operate the item i will also turn off the light long before taking the bulb out. As well as making sure the bulb is not too hot as light bulbs in enclosed fixtures are also at a high risk for fire because heat is not able to dissipate as well. Bulbs inside a glass scone or globe can be more prone to fire than other bulbs. If a bulb overheats, it can damage a fixture and melt the socket inside of it, starting a fire. Meaning i will have to keep close control of the light to prevent possible risks.Electrocution is also a major risk when filming my music video due to the amount of wires used in the shooting area keep wires and lighting away from areas that it may get wet, such as by the river where some scenes are being shot.If you someone has been shocked i will also need to be aware , that emergency treatment may not be necessary, but you should still see a doctor as soon as possible. Internal damage from electric shocks is often hard to detect without a thorough medical exam.

The car used in the music video is also a risk such as me filming the car driving or the lights of the car may result in the car moving forward injuring an actor or myself in the meantime. To prevent this i would keep a safe distance from the car at all times keeping myself and other actors safe.

Planning - Permission to shoot

Planning - Location Scouting

Location Scouting

Oakwood Pond

The first chosen location is Oakwood pond which the full address is Oakwood pond Harlow Cm201TN. I can film at Oakwood pond without permission as it is a public place therefore their are no restrictions of filming as long as I don’t get a member of public in the shot without their permission. I chose to film at Oakwood pond as it shows the adventurism of youths that is seen within the music video such as climbing as well as using the water for effects within the video such as overlays.

Terminus street car park

The second chosen location is Terminus street car park which the full address is Terminus Street Car Park CM201XE. I can also film at this location as it is a public place however I paid a fee for the car to be in the car park which was £3 for over an hour. I chose to film at this location as it was high up therefore I could do the first part of my music video where I filmed the cars in the dark to contrast the cars in the day as well as allowing me to film close ups of the car the protagonist character was using throughout the video.

House

The third location is my house. Which the address is shown on the location scouting sheet. I was able to film at this location with permission from the owners which were my mum and dad that they signed and agreed towards me doing. I chose to film at this location as it allowed me to film whenever I was able to as well as knowing where good lighting is or how I could work with the space I was given as I lived there. I was also able to play round with lighting as it was my own property I would not create any disturbance to others apart from myself.

Seven Hotel Southend

The fourth location is The Seven Hotel in Southend which the full address is 7 Clifton Terrace , Southend on Sea SS1 1DT. I was able to film inside my hotel room as it was not in the term and conditions that cameras were not allowed as well as me asking reception however they did not feel comfortable filling out a location scouting sheet for personal and professional reasons whilst at work. I chose to use this location as it uses Hebdidges theory of youth cultural with two youths between the age of 16-25 using a higher class hotel room to stay in with reckless behaviour of the sense of adventure in the video through the fast cuts used in my video.

Streets of Southend

The fifth location is the streets of Southend including the arcades and seafront. With the direct Western Esplanade , Southend on sea SS11EE. I was allowed to film in this area as it was a public place and I was not told to put my camera away. I chose to use this location as I wanted shots of the ocean to allude to the title “Ocean Drive” as well as footage of the fun parts of the relationship that ultimately ends.

Construction logo design

Production company logo design
This is the logo I created for my production company that would be working alongside my artist to create my final music video. The name Holly productions comes from my name and what the company offers. I decided to keep the name basic as using strong short company names allows organisations to get out of the habit of “over-explaining” their companies. Rather than trying to describe the complex nature of your company in a handful of combined words, you refine your entire business essence down into two words. Delivering a quick sense of information and meaning. They inform your audience about the underlying elements that drive your company and inspire your decisions. That’s why it’s so important to choose a meaningful name. However, business names don’t have to be complicated to be significant. Instead, they just need to give your audience a hint about your background in a concise way meaning Holly productions straight away tells the target audience what the company will offer. I hand drew the logo myself on A4 paper to begin with alongside a range of other designs then made the decisions to go with the full company name with the illusion of the camera and the hand representing the letters D and O. The use of the hand coming from the D was to represent the filming aspect of the company. I decided to have the hand resemble a hand coming from a suit to represent the professionalism of the company as well as the artistic side as it is hand drawn and not graphically developed by a software such as CGI.I then used Photoshop to fill the picture with different colours using the pen tool which is a simple selection feature that enables you to fill, stroke or make selections from whatever you draw. To make a selection, i had to click two points to create a line between them, and drag a point to create a curved line for the letters such as D or P. Once i have filled the path i wanted i then had to change the Contents to either Foreground or Background, depending on the colour swatch i wanted to use which was mainly black. Originally i was going to use a font for the writing involved on my logo however to make my logo more unique and personal i created my own font by just using the pen tool around my original art work for the logo. Making my logo look more artistic and complex which would be a correct representation of the company i would be offering. The colour theory involved with this logo would be the use of black when looking at the text within the logo. Black represents power , elegance and formality which is the reason i choose it as my main colour as i wanted my company to come across in them three sub headings and be represented in that manor.

Artist logo design

When designing my artist logo I came up with a range of ideas to fit the fun loving brief as well as creating a sleek artist logo. I began by designing logos free hand on paper. Some designs incorporating the name of the artist M-sea and some using images alone such as pictures of waves and the ocean. By using images in my logo It gives the brand a message with a professional, playful, and trustworthy approach in the design. This mostly depends on the nature of the business which is for an individual as an artist .Therefore the logo creates a unique business identity and can create a brand perception, like perceiving the identity of the artist through what image is used or colours. The first logo shown above is the artist name however instead of using a hyphen using a wave to break up the name. By doing this the image alludes to the artist name and the theme of my music video relating to the ocean. Using the font Bauhaus 93 this style of typography is effective in conveying the message of the design. With a balanced layout, geometric shapes and sans-serif letters in upper case or lower case fonts which stand out. The influence on the modern day posters and designs alongside a cartoon drawing of a wave which makes the logo which compliments the modern design. I chose not to use that logo as it was a basic design and I personally felt like it did not use a range of skills I had learnt in order to create my final logo design. I then used a shadow of the outside of the lettering through the use of Photoshop to make the letters stand out even more as well making the wave fit alongside the artist name through fluidity of colours.
The second design I came up with was a picture of a wave creating a symbol of a sun so they are alongside each other. I did this to incorporate a fun loving attitude of the sun and yellow as well as the symbol of the ocean to fit the identity of my artist if I was to finish this specific design. Looking at colour theory the use of yellow if I was to finish my logo is associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy. Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity, and generates muscle energy. Bright, pure yellow grabs audiences attention, which is the reason many marketing products use yellow and taxicabs are painted this colour in New York as it is a busy area. Making this design an abstract logo. An abstract is the logo that is used to represent something with the only symbol or icon. Abstract logos are very important as they are memorable and makes the artists brand recognisable as they use simple symbols. Like the two symbols I planned of using of a sun and a wave. I decided not to use this logo as I felt it did not represent my artists brand identity well as well as it not matching a logo a record artist would use.

The third logo I came up with was the least complex of the range of designs I planned to use. I used a platform online called neon text maker on the website “flaming text” instead of Photoshop.  I did not plan to have this as my main logo just a feature on the website as it compliments a black background I planned to use at the time. The use of neon as a colour makes the logo modern as well as eye catching to the modern fun loving young audience I am targeting. I also wanted to use neon as a result of my website textual analysis of the DJ Marshmello https://marshmellomusic.com/. Marshmello’s use of neon creates a playful tone to his website which I enjoyed when looking at the website and wanted to take inspiration from through the use of neon and a playful serif font.

The fourth logo I designed uses both symbols and lettering to create the initial ‘MC’ which is the play on words the artist name M-Sea was made to create. However I later on decided that I wanted the full name as a part of my logo so I don’t confuse potential audiences.Seen with Jenkins Fandom theory and the ideas that fans appropriate texts and read them in ways that are not fully authorised by the media producers therefore by not using the full name audiences might label the artist under an abbreviated name that is not the name I intended to market or represent within my video or website. I designed the logo within Photoshop using the pen tool , shapes and the brush tool. I used my hand drawn picture of the logo as a background to trace the shape of the waves as a part of the letter C. The letter m was created using a regular sans-serif font on Photoshop creating a slick tone and making sure the edges are not rigid which may of been created if I did it free hand with a brush tool for example. The C on the other hand was created using the pen tool.Using the mouse , drag the pointer to draw the next segment of my path. While the mouse button is pressed down, I optimised the curve of the segment. The previous segment then is automatically adjusted to keep the curve smooth creating the curvatures of the waves making them look smooth as possible however if it looks rigid that would factor into the wave effect I was looking for and intended to create.I create the curves of the wave and the end of the C bby adding an anchor point where a curve changes direction, and dragging the direction lines that shape the curve. The length and slope of the direction lines determine the shape of the wave or C.

The final logo i designed used both writing and pictures to create on final logo that i was happy with. Compared with all of my other logo designs i approached this one differently in the way i used my mobile rather than pen and paper to draw my design i did this because it was darker allowing me to use it as a more accurate guide than faint lines of pencil i previously scanned through on the computer. I designed a circular tidal wave as it would represent the hyphen between m-sea as well as being an interesting and complex design.
I also took inspiration from the Google chrome logo when researching other logos being a statement circular design therefore i combined a natural force of a tidal wave with the technology aspect of the google chrome logo.I created this by using the pen tool on Photoshop to trace around the shapes i created which was difficult as it was curved shapes of tidal waves however i overcame this by using the curvature pen tool. The curvature pen tool works similar to the original pen tool however it differs after the third point you chose and this is when the curvature tool rounds off the last three points into one smooth curve shown in  the wave. To adjust it i kept clicking points around the edge of the shape until i reached the beginning of the curve again and was happy with my product of the circular tidal wave effect. Afterwards i then used the fill path tool to fill the outline of the shapes with my desired colour which was various colours of blue. I decided to use different colours of blue to make the logo stand out more to the audience rather than sticking with one colour making it monotone rather than exciting and unique. I chose the colour blue as it is the colour of waves and the ocean however according to the colour theory it is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolises trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. Therefore audiences will trust my artist logo in terms of official websites and the music video as they know it is linked with the true artist which is important in the music industry. I am happy with my final artist logo as it matches the artists brand of relating to the ocean as well as the Pop DJ theme. However i could make it look more professional by having a more sleek design through a smoother use of the pen tool. I am proud of myself as i haven't had much experience on the software Photoshop.

Construction - Website Final Design

Final Website Design

Link to website - https://hsaunders5468.wixsite.com/mysite-2

For my website i decided to use a video montage of clips used in my muisc video as the homepage. I did this through an effect within the website 'wix' where it allowed me to insert the video with a chosen glare which was called 'Retro glare' Within web development industry, large video backgrounds are considered one of the most engaging ways to portray a company's vision, mission and capabilities. I also took inspiration from Lady Ga Ga website although it did not have a video the website was interactive and a spectacle opposed to calm and a lack of effects to push it over the edge compared to other competitors. I decided to keep the homepage minimal as I wanted the video to be the main focus of my website as it is not a normal approach used on websites when referring back to my website research. According to Curran and Seaton they believe that the idea media concentration generally limits or inhibits variety, creativity and quality therefore a website that includes variety and creativity is rare and will bring in a large consumer audience as it is intriguing. My homepage also includes a navigation bar with the subheadings; 'Home' 'Listen' 'Shows' 'Video' 'Featured' and 'shop'.The navigation bar is an important element of a website's design since it allows users to quickly visit any section within the site. If you've ever visited a website without a navigation bar, you may have found it is difficult to locate the page you need. You may have also had to click "Back" several times in order to find a link to the next section you wanted to visit. On my website the navigation bar is available throughout the website making the users experience easier and more successful when looking for information such as tour dates. My homepage also includes social media links for the artists personal social media platforms. By including social media links you are building a rapport with your audience as they are gaining a deeper insight to your life.  providing your visitors the opportunity to trust you more. With 79% of consumers trusting social proof as much as personal recommendations, it’s important you integrate the proper social widgets on your website to increase usage and website conversions. For my title and navigation bar i used the font 'Anton' as it was large and bold which i believed was a font that made my website stand out and look more modern compared to other fonts as seen on website research task. I like my homepage as it fits my target audience of 16-25 fun loving year old as it is young , modern and contemporary due to the bold colours and font. I also used hyperlinks that will navigate the audience to the artists social media platforms such as twitter. Shirky theory of understanding the impact that Web 2.0 technologies would have on the way that audiences interact with media production advancing user interface. His wide ranging analysis was quick to recognise that the media industry would shift irrevocably from a broadcast model in which a relatively few senders produced work to a democratised model of engagement. Shirky suggests that this migration was driven largely by peer to peer sharing platforms and social networking. The use of including social media platforms on the website allows this theory to take place. I am happy with my final website design as it stands out and combines the genre conventions of Pop and DJ through the layout. If i was to improve my website i would add more pages and include more aspects to make it more unique.
